Road Scene, Heathersett

Description

Influenced by the Romantic poet William Wordsworth and by Dutch landscape painters, John Crome’s affinity for nature translated into etchings that held a preeminent place in the development of English landscape art. He embraced a spontaneous approach to the medium, using lines very sparingly to convey the calm light and quiet atmosphere of the English countryside.
