Fountain Figure of Abundance

Description

The spout coming out of the breast indicates that this figure was part of a table fountain--a specialty of Augsburg artists. Her nudity and naturalistic proportions demonstrate the impact of Italian Renaissance art in southern Germany during the early 1500s.

Private collection, England; Wildenstein and Co. (New York, New York), sold to the Cleveland Museum of Art, 1971.
