Description
The highly finished surface of this sculpture, including the back, suggests it belonged to a refined collector. Small sculptures would often be held to admire details such as the strands of hair streaming onto Christ’s shoulders, the prominent veins in his forearms, and the intricate knotted cloth at his side.
