Widener [1834-1915], Lynnewood Hall, Elkins Park, Pennsylvania; inheritance from Estate of Peter A.B. Widener by gift through power of appointment of Joseph E. Widener, Elkins Park, Pennsylvania; gift 1942 to NGA. [1] According to Andrew McLaren Young, Margaret F. MacDonald, and Robin Spencer, with the assistance of Hamish Miles, _The Paintings of James McNeill Whistler_, New Haven, 1980: 30, in 1886 Whistler listed it in Potter's collection under the title Chelsea Barges.
